SRR Remote Wiring and Installation

SUBJECT: Wiring Remote to the Controller, Installation Procedures

To utilize the popular SRR remote with Hunter SRC, Pro-C or ICC controllers, you will need to install a Smart Port wiring harness on the controller. A standard wiring harness is included free in the box with every controller to allow easy use on every job.

Installing the Smart Port
  1. Install the Smart Port connector within 3 to 6 feet of wire length from the controller using the standard wiring harness supplied with controller.
  2. Use shielded cable to connect the Smart Port to the controller if installing the connector more than 6 feet of wiring length from the controller. The use of shielded cable will eliminate the potential for radio interference. (Note: at no time should the Smart Port be installed more than 50 feet away from the controller.)
Obtaining Shielded Cable

For easiest installation, order a new Hunter SRR-SCWH Smart Port wiring harness with a full 25 feet of shielded cable.

Shielded cable may also be purchased from electrical supply stores like Radio Shack. A 50 foot roll of shielded cable at Radio Shack is part number 278-513. Radio Shack shielded cable can be connected to the standard Smart Port wiring harness for longer distances between the controller and the connector.

Controller Displayed Error Message

An error message ("ERR") in the controller display indicates that the wiring to the remote control connector port is acting as an antenna and is feeding back electrical and radio "noise" into the brain of the controller. This is site specific and could occur regardless of the length of wire used.

To try to remedy this situation, change the wiring to your Smart Port connector to shielded cable or utilize the special wiring harness from Hunter that has shielded cable.
