High-Pop Sprinklers: The Smart Way to Water Tall Ground Cover and Planting Areas
Well, the question isn’t so much “why” as “why not”–that is, why wouldn’t anyone want to use a high-pop when the situation calls for installing a head that needs to do its work from a more elevated position. There are four main reasons why a high-pop sprinkler is so advantageous: Watering efficiency. A high pop has the ability to pop up over taller ground covers for unimpeded spray. Yes, that is what a fixed riser will do for a smaller pop-up as well…but with a high-pop there’s nothing to “assemble” and your end result is a sturdier product. Improved aesthetics. There are no unsightly risers to be seen when you use a high-pop instead of a fixed riser. A high pop extends out to its full height only when in use; after, it retracts out of sight. Project safety. Because a high pop retracts out of view when not in use, there is no tripping hazard as would be with a fixed riser that has nowhere to go. Vandal resistance. Retracting out of view also puts it out of sight from potential vandals, whose aim is to destroy. It also protects the head from unintended damage that’s the result of contact by pedestrians or vehicles. High-pops are available on PGJ, PGP® and I-20 rotors, as well as SRS, Pro-Spray® and Institutional Spray heads.
