Proper Installation of the SRR Remote
The Problem The SRR receiver connection is mounted away from the controller and thus the wires to the wiring harness are being extended several feet. When the wires to the wiring harness are extended, they act as an antenna and pick up "noise" from radio waves or nearby electrical wires. This is transmitted as a signal that the controller will not understand. The controller displays an error message ("ERR"). The Solution Use shielded cable instead of standard wire (to protect from outside interference) whenever the wiring harness needs to be extended. Mount the SRR receiver connection no more than 50 feet away from the controller when using shielded cable. Temporarily install the shielded cable and check for correct operation before permanent installation (in most cases shielded cable will work fine, in a few cases it may not work at all - this, too, is site specific). Shielded cable is available at any number of sources, including Radio Shack (part number 278-513). BEWARE!! Radio Shack shielded cable has different colored wires than the Hunter wiring harness, so care must be taken when connecting wires to the controller. Be sure connections are made as follows: Hunter red connects to Radio Shack white, Hunter white connects to Radio Shack shield, Hunter blue connects to Radio Shack blue. The Easiest Solution Hunter has developed a special wiring harness (SRR-SCWH), that includes 25 feet of color-coded shielded cable, for use in installing the remote connection port a long distance from the controller. Simply replace the wiring harness included with your Hunter controller and install SRR-SCWH. |
