Wireless IMMS™: Control a Network of Irrigation Systems
from a Single Location with no Need to Hardwire
Imagine being able to call up a controller by cell phone and reprogram it, all without having to visit the site.
With the wireless capabilities of Hunter’s IMMS control system, you can economically and efficiently communicate with remote sites using cellular telephone technology (GSM) and communicate around a given site using point-to-point radio (UHF).
Nothing could be simpler.
The IMMS receives regular reports on the status of every site in your system, including any sensor alarms and protective shutdowns.
Is Wireless for You?
Wireless is ideal for retrofit into existing installations because there is no costly trenching, no disruption of the landscape, and there is reduced susceptibility to lightning. Plus, wireless is the perfect fix for difficult locations since it can “leap” over streets, rivers or railroad tracks; and it costs considerably less than very long runs of hardwire.
But wireless is not for everyone. You must first determine whether your site can accommodate it. To do that, a site survey will need to be performed to show which of the two available wireless options your particular location is best suited to…or whether the more traditional hardwire or modem methods must be used.
Two Different Applications
Both of the IMMS wireless options provide the opportunity for you to control irrigation systems where land-based telephone service is unavailable.
Cellular: Install IMMS-CELL, designed for long distance links
- no telephone lines and the range is too great for UHF Radio
- covers a wide area (how far does your cell phone reach?)
- connects remote sites to a central computer
- no need to drop telephone lines to distant sites, simply mount a SI-CELL next to a standard Hunter controller
- installs in an SI only
- has a monthly fee (from your cell phone service provider)
- no license required (technically part of your cellular service)
UHF Radio: Install IMMS-R which fits and connects both an SI and one or more local CIs, on the same site
- for the local area around a single site, with 2-mile maximum radius (typically less in hilly or heavily built-up urban areas)
- no need to trench cable to distant controller locations
- can be retrofitted to existing controllers
- installs in both the SI and CIs
- no monthly fee
- must be licensed (with one-time licensing fees)
Combine Wireless with Hardwire
If you already have a system in place that operates by hardwire, there’s no need for a costly replacement of equipment. You can simply combine the existing installation with the new wireless technology, and both will work hand-in-hand with each other.
Should you be looking to go completely wireless and feel it will be necessary to choose between cellular or UHF, don’t worry. IMMS makes it possible to create a system that incorporates both cellular and UHF communications.
That’s the beauty of IMMS…it allows you to “mix and match” your communications methods to best suit your particular needs.
Scheduling days to water, run times, start times, seasonal adjustments and more at multiple sites is easy with IMMS.
Wireless can offer the ideal method of central control communication for such sites as condo or community homeowners associations, apartment buildings, and government or business complexes. Speak with your authorized Hunter distributor or your local Hunter sales representative for all the details and see what version of IMMS is best for you!
