Introducing the New PGJ Rotor:
Everything Great About the #1 PGP®, Sized to Meet the Needs of Smaller Areas
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
That has been proven time and time again by our competitors. They all strive to outdo the PGP® rotor’s amazing track record for performance and sales. Every time they make an “improvement” or addition to their rotors, it seems that they added nothing more than a copy of some feature we already have in ours.
No wonder we can safely say that the PGP has set the standards for an entire industry. Standards that others can hope to attain…but can’t surpass.
That said, Hunter took a cue from our competitors and looked to our own PGP for inspiration. We decided to duplicate everything that has made the PGP so good, then scale the rotor down to meet the needs of typical spray applications.
In effect, we created a PGP “Junior”…the new PGJ.
As if We Shrunk the PGP
“We have long used PGP rotors exclusively on any project that calls for a standard size rotor,” said Scott Fischer of Fischer Irrigation in Webster, Texas. “No other rotor offers so much and performs so well. Now, with PGJ, it’s almost as if we can install PGPs on areas that would have been too small for the rotor.”
With the new PGJ, Hunter created a sprinkler exclusively for areas that typically call for the use of sprays but where it’s now possible to enjoy the benefits of a rotor.
And what are those benefits?
Since it is scaled down in size, PGJ makes it possible to install two rows of rotors and do the same job as three rows of spray heads. So, right off the bat that means less trenching, piping and labor.
Then, because PGJ can run on the same zone as other rotary sprinklers, these rotors require fewer valves and stations.
It all adds up to less installation time for you and lower installation costs (as well as lower watering costs) for your customers.
“We would much rather use a rotor in place of a spray,” said Danny Lenderman of The Enchanted Forest in Richmond, Texas. “Rotors are sturdier, easier to handle and service, and don’t require a separate zone. We just had never been satisfied with any of the mid-range rotors on the market. In fact, we always thought ‘…if only there was something like PGP, just smaller.’ And now, with PGJ, there is a smaller rotor just like PGP.”
A Chip Off the Ol’ Block
PGJ allows you to enjoy virtually all the features of its big brother, PGP. Here are some of the more notable characteristics that this “chip off the ol’ block” has to offer:
- Radius adjustment – the ability to fine tune the spray and ensure positive nozzle retention
- Integral rubber cover – the kind that PGP made famous…keeps dirt out and won’t fall off
- A rack of easy-to-install-and-change, water-efficient nozzles – complete set of 8 nozzles, with a radius of 15 to 37 feet and flows from .64 up to 5.3 GPM
- Easy arc adjustment from the top of the sprinkler – precisely set the arc from 40-360 degrees, whether the rotor is up or down, wet or dry
- Water-lubricated gear drive– Hunter’s proven technology, a winner for more than two decades, delivers reliable rotation
- Heavy duty riser seal – keeps excess flow to a minimum to reduce water waste
- Variable stator – regardless of nozzle size or pressure, PGJ’s rotation speed remains consistent
- Extra large filter screen – a bigger screen means more debris can be trapped without clogging
- Optional factory installed drain check valve (up to 7' elevation change) – eliminates wet spots that are caused by low head drainage
The Next Big Thing?
“To properly address the issue of a spray alternative, we knew that we had to match the durability and features of the PGP in order to make this a successful product,” said Steve Hoveln, Hunter rotor products manager. “Our engineers did a great job taking a classic product (PGP) and adapting it to create a scaled-down version that does everything the original does, only for smaller zones. PGJ truly is PGP’s ‘little brother.’”
As a result, the PGJ is capable of working in tandem with larger rotors to combine big and small areas in a single zone, offering a convenience and efficiency that sprays do not. With PGJ, fewer heads perform more efficient work for a more economical price.
Sometimes the biggest ideas are the small ones. In the case of PGJ, thinking small (as in a smaller version of PGP) could well turn out to be the next big thing in Hunter rotors.
