ICV: Industrial Strength Valve Handles the Pressure of Challenging ConditionsLooking for durability and reliability in a valve? Look no further than the Hunter ICV. Our top of the line valve is as rugged, durable and reliable as any commercial valve on the market – even those made of solid brass. With the ICV, you’ve got a long-lasting valve ready to take on anything a site might dish out. Works Well Under PressureAt a commercial site, water pressure can often reach into triple-digit PSI readings. An inferior valve isn’t built to take that kind of pounding. But the ICV is truly a heavy-duty workhorse, able to withstand pressures of up to 220 PSI. Another measure of the valve’s strength and durability is its construction. Generous amounts of glass-filled nylon provide exceptional body and bonnet strength, allowing the valve to withstand the harshest conditions at a site. The fabric-reinforced diaphragm is manufactured from EPDM, one of the strongest rubber compounds available. To prove the reliability of the ICV, Hunter subjected the valve to a barrage of grueling tests. High pressure surge, sand and grit, and continuous operation tests have helped to ensure that the product could withstand the equivalent of years of 220 PSI operation. As rugged as the ICV is – functioning with flows up to 200 GPM and making it ideal for institutional and large turf systems – it is versatile enough to handle irrigation at the other extreme. The valve’s enormously wide flow range allows it be used for micro irrigation applications, as well, accommodating flows as low as .10 GPM. Easy to Install, Maintain, ServiceJust call the ICV maintenance-friendly. A perfect example of this is the valve’s “captive” parts. The diaphragm, solenoid plunger and bonnet are all designed into the valve so they cannot become separated from the unit and lost. The bolts also feature a triple tool design: a head that’s a combination slot/Phillips/hex for easy servicing with a variety of tools. In addition, the 1" and 2" valves feature completely interchangeable parts. Through-hole brass inserts in the body of the ICV provide the valve with the maximum amount of strength and serviceability. And, the screw hole allows dirt to fall through the valve instead of packing to the bottom (where it becomes impossible to tighten the bonnet bolts). Dirt tolerance is a specialty of the ICV thanks to the combination of the valve’s “knife-edged” body seat and the diaphragm seat assembly’s Estane polymer construction. Due to the seat’s design style, it is difficult for debris to be trapped when the valve closes. And, should any particles become buried in the diaphragm seat, the ICV’s polymer will return to its original shape after the debris is flushed out. You’ll find “weeping” valves are a thing of the past. Flow control is standard on the ICV. Plus, with a non-rising handle, the valve can be placed closer to the valve box lid for easy servicing. Just Set the Desired PressureTo make the ICV an even better choice against the competition, consider two added options: Filter Sentry™ (see article below) and the Accu-Set™ pressure regulator. Accu-Set provides an accurate working (dynamic) pressure by means of easy-to-read dial settings. The dial ensures exact downstream pressure between 20 and 100 PSI and constantly adjusts as needed to provide a consistent outlet pressure regardless of inlet pressure variations. With Accu-Set, an irrigation system does not need to be pressurized to adjust it. Simply dial in the desired pressure and that’s what will be delivered.
An easy retrofit on any ICV – without cutting any pipe or replacing valves – Accu-Set makes it easy to deal with systems where high pressure problems are discovered after installation. Filter Sentry™ Stands Guard Over Debris
But, even with a large surface area, filters can become clogged by large amounts of debris like sand or algae, commonly found in reclaimed water, wells, lakes or ponds. So, in addition to its ample size, the ICV filter is constantly cleaned by turbulent water flow, keeping contaminants to an absolute minimum. With the optional Filter Sentry™ cleaning system set up in the valve, the filter is scoured clean by a wiper as it slides up the filter when the valve opens. The wiper continues to provide cleaning action on the upper part of the filter during valve operation. A superior feature of the Filter Sentry is that it always strokes the full length of the filter, independent of flow control adjustments. Other self-cleaning filter systems are restricted in their cleaning ability when the diaphragm travel height above the body seat is restricted due to any flow control adjustments. Best of all, the Filter Sentry can be added without difficulty even after the valve is already installed. |
