Need a Heavy-Duty Controller? Nothing Surpasses an ICC
If you’re looking for a controller that’s teeming with features and is also built rugged enough to stand up to virtually any type of environment, the search begins and ends with the Hunter ICC. Let’s start with the high grade construction. The controller itself can be described in a word: solid. Grasp the programming dial and take it "for a spin." As you turn the dial you can easily feel how well the unit is assembled. At each stop on its rotation, the dial "clicks" into position providing positive engagement and leaving no question as to what function it is performing. There’s no lingering impression of a unit that’s loosely put together, so common to many other controllers. Give the ICC "box" a firm tap with your hand and feel how well-built it is. That’s because Hunter uses only the highest quality plastics to mold a rugged unit ready to survive the elements – both Nature and human. In addition, the box has been designed to close securely, ensuring the inner-workings are well protected and never left exposed. Superior Surge Protection So, the controller’s housing is sturdy, but what about the electronics? How well do the "brains" on the unit stand up? One of the most notorious environmental issues for a controller is lightning. In many areas of the country (e.g., Florida, the Midwest, mountain regions throughout the West) lightning can be almost a daily occurrence and strikes have been known to knock out the functions on many controllers and, on occasion, literally fry the entire unit. Thanks to the ICC’s superior surge protection, all of the unit’s electronic circuitry is protected from lightning – or electrical spikes – that otherwise could damage or destroy the programming functions. The ICC is equipped with electronic components called metal-oxide varistors (MOVs), which are designed to shunt electrical surges away from microcircuits through the controller’s grounding circuit. The ICC uses these MOVs to protect the controller from minor power surges coming in through the primary (110/230 VAC) input side and also the secondary (24 VAC) output side. For additional surge protection, add the ICC-PWB, a wiring board providing convenient hookup for up to 24 stations that can be added directly into the pedestal on metal and stainless steel cabinets.
Cabinets: 3 Sturdy Versions The ICC’s protective mounting cabinet is available in three durable styles. The plastic version is UL listed and NEMA 3R rated, meaning it is not subject to UV degradation or color changes and is ideal for outdoor as well as indoor use. For a more protective enclosure on an outdoor installation, Hunter offers the choice of an exceptionally strong metal cabinet and the most durable, stainless steel. The ICC Metal is available in either stainless steel or metal cabinets can accommodate up to 48 stations (the plastic cabinet holds a maximum of 32). You’ll also find there’s ample room in the stainless and metal cabinets to accommodate large gauge wiring. Sturdy stainless steel and metal pedestals are also available for outdoor installations that do not call for wall mounting.
The controller’s base unit comes with 8 stations built in and then by adding either 4- or 8-station "modules," the ICC can be configured to the most appropriate number of stations that your landscape requires. And should needs change, you can expand the number of stations without replacing the controller. Whatever the number of stations you choose, from 8 to 48, and whether you select a stainless steel, metal or plastic cabinet, all versions of the ICC provide the same impressive collection of quality features. Virtually everything you could want is here: dial programming and a large-easy-to-read display, independent day schedule options for each of the 4 fully-independent programs, 365-day calendar, programmable master valve, seasonal adjustment, rain sensor bypass, and non-volatile 100-year memory just to mention a few. And, of course, the ICC also includes Hunter’s simplified user set-up with the same easy programming style as all other Hunter controllers. Whether you’re looking for protection from the elements, a high volume of traffic or perhaps the not-so-delicate hands of one of your service technicians, there’s one controller that makes a strong, solid case for being your number one choice.
