Sunscreen and Common Sense: How You Can be OK with UV
At Hunter, we value you as a loyal customer and word-of-mouth spokesperson for our products. That's why we want you to buy...and not fry! We want you to be aware of the dangers of prolonged exposure to the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays and take the necessary simple steps to protect yourself.
Be aware–skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in America (more than 600,000 people get it each year). When found early, most people with skin cancer can be cured, but the safest thing you can do is take the steps needed not to get it at all.
Ninety percent of skin cancers occur on the parts of the body not usually covered with clothing–the face, hands, forearms and ears. People trying to get tans–how many of you work shirtless?–also get skin cancer on the shoulders, back, chest or legs.
To cut down on the risk of cancer, do the following:
- Try to stay out of the sun from 10 am to 3 pm when its rays are strongest.
- When you are out in the sun, wear wide-brimmed hats, long-sleeved shirts and pants. Don't forget to keep your neck covered.
- Sunscreen keeps out the harmful rays of the sun. Apply it liberally at least 15-30 minutes before going in the sun; put on more after sweating.
- Beware of cloudy days, you can still get burned.
- Wear a pair of UV-protective dark sunglasses.
Remember, protect yourself from the sun and you'll protect yourself from skin cancer.
