Russell Mitchell Receives Edwin J. Hunter Achievement AwardIrrigation designer Russell Mitchell has been presented the Edwin J. Hunter Achievement Award for his leadership and lifetime service to the landscape industry. The award was announced by Richard E. Hunter, company CEO, at the Hunter Industries’ Distributor Meeting, held at the Aviara Four Seasons Resort, north of San Diego, California. More than 500 landscape professionals attended the event. "Our industry is fortunate to have individuals like Russ Mitchell, who are dedicated to the advancement of education and efficient water use in landscape design," said Hunter. "Russ has spent more than 30 years in landscape irrigation, working as a professional designer and consultant. He has promoted modern water management practices and has helped influence public policy and consumer education on water use," he said. Mitchell is a principal at Russell D. Mitchell & Associates, an irrigation consulting and design firm based in Walnut Creek, California. Mitchell and his staff have been involved in golf course and public landscape design projects throughout the world. In 1970 Mitchell was one of the five founding members of the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC), which has been instrumental in promoting professional practices. Originally from Oregon, Mitchell attended college at California State University at Fresno and graduated with a degree in agricultural engineering. Among his professors was Dr. Winston Strong, one of the pioneers at the Center for Irrigation Technology at Cal State Fresno. In the mid-1960s Mitchell worked with Ewing Irrigation Products in northern California before starting his own irrigation consulting business. Mitchell resides in Walnut Creek, along with his wife Linda. Hunter Industries is among the world’s leading manufacturers of irrigation equipment for turf and landscape. The company is headquartered in San Marcos, California. |
