Hunter Industries and Lean Six Sigma
Lean Six Sigma is a discipline focused on eliminating waste and variability throughout the supply chain, and it mandates that every company activity add value for customers. The first component, Lean manufacturing, is a management philosophy focusing on reduction of the seven wastes: over-production, waiting time, transportation, processing, inventory, motion, and scrap. By eliminating waste, quality is improved, and production time and cost is reduced. The second component, Six Sigma, is a methodology focused on preventing problems by building quality into processes—by not having problems in the first place. The objective of Six Sigma is to deliver high performance, reliability, and value to the end customer. When the two systems are combined, Lean Six Sigma allows for easier identification and quicker resolution of quality issues or problems, and reaps quick results while opening people's eyes to new and better possibilities on manufacturing operations and customer satisfaction. Lean Six Sigma enhances the way we serve customers. It empowers every Hunter employee to help make drastic improvements in the company's performance. It enriches partnerships with distributors and key suppliers across the supply chain. And, most importantly, it drives new ways of thinking about our business. To learn more about the approach to business that is revolutionizing the world of commerce, read Dr. Salman Taghizadegan’s book, Essentials of Lean Six Sigma. |
